When
God's people gather for prayer, the most intimate and all-embracing
aspect of their life together occurs: The moment when they touch,
taste, smell, hear, see and share those hidden realities that would
otherwise remain imperceptible. God nourishes them as a community
and makes them holy through the use of ordinary perceptible signs
water, oil, bread and wine, transformed by extraordinary grace.
The place where God gathers this people powerfully draws them more
deeply into communion and expresses in beauty God's profound holiness.
This is the place that prompts them to recognize the divine image
in which they have been created, now restored in Christ.
Built of Living Stones - Art, Architecture and Worship, §140
If you understand what our Bishops were saying above, you soon
realize that Art and environment, then, is not art for art's sake.
It must support the liturgy and all the signs and symbols that are
it's language.
How to Get Involved
This ministry is very hands-on! Our main task is the seasonal decor in both our Church and Day Chapel worship spaces. To get involved in this ministry you can either help plan what is done, help coordinate how it gets done, or be part of the task force that literally transforms the space before major liturgical holidays and holy days.
