Habitat for Humanity
Our Habitat for Humanity team works in partnership with Northwest Indiana Habitat for Humanity - an ecumenical Christian nonprofit
organization dedicated to the objective of providing affordable housing for low-income
families and making decent shelter a matter of public conscience.
Many of
the volunteers have never done any construction work before! The work creates a feeling of accomplishment through the development
of new skills. We work along side other groups of churches,
businesses and the future homeowner for the project. We are each strengthened
and the community is impacted with the light of Christ as people from
several churches and businesses work together building a home for
a family in need.
Opportunities to Get Involved
- Volunteer to help build a home - no experience necessary! Professionals are on site to teach roofing, siding, and drywall installation and more.
- Typically the volunteer work is done on Fridays, Saturdays and/or Sundays.
- Typical volunteer hours range from 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., or however many hours as a volunteer can offer.
- Donations are accepted including tools and other home repair supplies.
- Offer monetary donations to the Foundation for Peace & Social Justice to support this ministry.
One of the home recipients wrote our parish thanking us and said, "It's nice to
know that there are people everywhere that still care about others and will go the
extra mile to prove it. Please thank everyone in your church that came to help in
the building of my home. Your kindness will never be forgotten."
