Legion of Mary - Queen of Apostles

It was through the Blessed Virgin Mary that Jesus came into the world, and it is also through her that he must reign in the world. (St. Louis-Marie deMonfort)

About the Legion

The Legion of Mary is an Association of Catholics who, with the sanction of the Church and under the powerful leadership of Mary Immaculate, Mediatrix of all Graces (who is fair as the moon, bright as the sun, and to satan and his legionaries - terrible as an army set in battle array), have formed themselves into a Legion for service in the warfare which is perpetually waged by the Church against the world and its evil powers.

The Legion of Mary is the largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church, with well over 3,000,000 active members in almost every country of the world. The object of the Legion of Mary is the glory of God through the holiness of its members developed by prayer and active cooperation, under ecclesiastical guidance, in Mary's and the Church's work of crushing the head of the serpent and advancing the reign of Christ. It has been active in the United States since 1931, has been approved by the last six Popes, and was endorsed by the Second Vatican Council.

Works of the Legion

The Legion bows to a power greater than itself. We reflect this central theme in our love and sense of duty to Mary through the Sacred Heart of Jesus and through the Holy Spirit. We bow down to the Holy Spirit and ask him to guide the Legion in its works for the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Members become instruments of the Holy Spirit through a balanced program of prayer and service. There is a deep sense of wanting to share the Legion ideals with others so they can also experience the joys of an increase in holiness through our love for God. The work of the Legion is apostolic by nature. Works include door-to-door evangelization, parishioner visitation, prison ministry, visitation of the sick or aged, crowd contact, religious education, and meeting the other spiritual needs of the parish community. Legionaries are under the guidance of a spiritual director named by the pastor. The Legion is, in essence, an extension of the heart and hands of the pastor, and our message is for Catholics or non-Catholic, Christian or non-Christian, businessman or homeless. The Legion is for all to enlighten souls wherever it goes.
