Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

St. John Evangelist Parish considers itself a "Eucharistic-centered parish," meaning that everything we do as church embraces the Eucharist as the Source and Summit of our faith. Therefore, we take seriously the role of those people who aide the priest and deacon in the distribution of Holy Communion, the precious body, blood, soul and divinity of our Eucharistic Lord.

What are the requirements to be part of this ministry?

First, and most importantly, you must be a person of deep faith who believes that the Eucharist is truly the body and blood of Christ. You are also required to be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the church.

Many of our EMHC's have shared that they have felt a calling from God to minister in this area. We strongly encourage you to pray before the Blessed Sacrament in our Adoration Chapel on a regular basis, so your love for the Eucharist can grow. Before a mass they are scheduled for, ministers are encouraged to arrive early to prepare themselves spiritually to stand before the assembly and offer them this sacramental gift.

How to Get Involved

As with our other liturgical ministries, training and formation sessions are offered several times a year. Both the spiritual and practical aspects of this ministry are discussed.
