Marian Ministries

St. John the Evangelist and our mother, Mary, share a special relationship as depicted in the scriptures. As a parish, we also hold a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. This ministry is the name under which all of our devotions centered around Mary are united.

May Crowning

On a Sunday in May, our parish gathers for a wonderful outward sign of our faith by hosting a May Crowning. Usually, we begin in church with prayers and the first decade of the rosary, then proceed outside to walk the grounds of our church and down the Shrine of Christ's Passion prayer trail. We end at the beautiful Marian and crown the statue of Mary, saying prayers and singing songs of love and devotion.

Afterward, a picnic is held to continue the celebration of our "queen of the May". This is an especially wonderful event for families to share!

For those unable to walk the prayer trail, cart transportation is provided by the Shrine's ministry.

Family Devotional Rosary for Peace

We currently offer the praying of the rosary every Sunday evening beginning at 7:00 pm in the Day Chapel. This rosary is geared to the entire family, and is led by a group of faithful parishioners. You are encouraged to make this a part of your family's prayer life, especially in the months dedicated to honoring Mary - October and May.

The rosary is also prayed before many daily morning masses by those in attendance, and is led by the Knights of Columbus before Sunday Masses several times throughout the year. The bulletin will have that particular mass schedule throughout the year. In September, we hold a "Public Square" rosary especially devoted to America's spiritual needs.

Legion of Mary

The Legion of Mary is an Association of Catholics who, with the sanction of the Church and under the powerful leadership of Mary Immaculate, Mediatrix of all Graces (who is fair as the moon, bright as the sun, and to satan and his legionaries - terrible as an army set in battle array), have formed themselves into a Legion for service in the warfare which is perpetually waged by the Church against the world and its evil powers. We have an active chapter here at SJE. > Read More

The Living Rosary

During the month of October, the Marian girls from our parish school help lead the prayers for the "living" rosary, where students holding votive candles become the "beads" of the rosary, circling around our church. This is a beautiful active recitation for the children of the school which is open to all parishioners.
