Anointing of the SickOne known as "Extreme Unction," the Anointing of the Sick" is not a sacrament for those only who are at the point of death. Hence, as soon as anyone of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived." (Catechism of the Catholic Church -1514) Whenever a loved one is in danger of death, the family is encouraged to call for the Sacrament. In cases of serious illness or approaching surgery, one may arrange to receive the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick on the first Sunday of the month immediately following the 11:30 Mass. In most cases of surgery, the date is known well in advance, so please call the office at 219-365-5678 to schedule reception of the Sacrament at the beginning of the month in which surgery is scheduled. |
